Preparation

  • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic, stirring for about 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
  • Introduce ground beef into the pot, breaking it apart as it cooks. Brown the beef for about 5-7 minutes and drain any excess fat.
  • Add diced tomatoes and beef broth to the pot. Stir well and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce to a simmer.
  • Stir in the orzo pasta and let it cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • Pour in the heavy cream and mix well. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until heated through. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and stir in fresh basil just before serving.

Notes

Stir the orzo frequently while cooking to prevent sticking. Adjust the thickness of the sauce with beef broth or water as needed. Feel free to customize with additional vegetables like spinach or mushrooms for more nutrition and flavor.
