Preparation

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Slice onions thinly and add them to the skillet once the oil shimmers.
  • Sauté onions until they become soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.

Cooking

  • Increase heat to medium-high and add ground beef to the skillet.
  • Break meat apart and season with salt and pepper.
  • Cook until fully browned, about 7-10 minutes.

Assembly

  • Prepare hoagie rolls by split each down the middle and toast if desired.
  • Distribute the beef and onion mixture evenly among the hoagie rolls.
  • Add slices of provolone cheese on top of the filling.
  • Return rolls to the broiler for 2-3 minutes to melt the cheese.
