Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk At room temperature
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs At room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper. Spray with non-stick cooking spray.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  • Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and whisk until smooth.
  • Carefully stir in the boiling water to create a thin batter.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then invert onto wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting

  • Prepare your desired chocolate frosting and apply generously between the layers and over the top and sides of the cooled cakes.

Notes

Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for even mixing. Consider using high-quality cocoa powder for the best flavor.
