Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup cocoa powder for chocolate flavor

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar for sweetness
  • 4 large eggs for binding
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract for flavor
  • 1 cup milk for moistness
  • 0.5 cup boiling water to dissolve cocoa

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.

Batter Mixing

  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add the vanilla.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture and milk, mixing until just combined.

Marbling the Cake

  • Divide the batter into two bowls. In one, mix in cocoa powder, followed by boiling water until smooth.
  • Alternately spoon the vanilla and chocolate batters into each prepared pan and gently swirl with a knife.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for better blending. Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days. Can be reheated in the microwave or oven.
